About Us

IBF Investigations International provides litigation-focused forensic accident analysis and expert testimony for legal professionals handling serious and complex matters.

Founded by Stan Bezuidenhout, an experienced forensic investigator and expert witness with extensive multi-jurisdictional casework, IBF Investigations operates at the intersection of engineering, human factors, and evidentiary law. Our work is grounded in disciplined methodology, transparent reasoning, and opinions developed for judicial scrutiny.

We support attorneys in matters involving traffic collisions, workplace incidents, and complex loss events where expert evidence must be reliable, reproducible, and defensible. Our analyses are conducted with the expectation that findings may be tested in deposition or at trial, and our reports are prepared accordingly.

With the establishment of IBFUSA LLC, our services are now structured to align with US Federal Rules of Evidence and Daubert standards, ensuring reliability, methodological integrity, and admissibility. While our work has been relied upon in South African courts and international matters, all new engagements are approached to the evidentiary standards required in North American litigation.

We do not produce opinion-driven reports or artificially constrained analyses. Our role is to assist the trier of fact by presenting clear, objective, and technically sound findings that support informed legal strategy.

For attorneys requiring disciplined forensic analysis on high-stakes matters, IBF Investigations offers experience, integrity, and litigation-ready expertise.

IBF Investigations International provides litigation-focused forensic accident analysis and expert testimony across a broad range of legal and commercial matters.

Our practice supports attorneys, insurers, commercial operators, and public and private institutions in matters including civil litigation, personal injury and loss claims, employment and workplace disputes, insurance and indemnity matters, commercial and contractual disputes, and product liability or recall investigations. Every assignment is undertaken with the expectation that findings may be subjected to judicial scrutiny, expert challenge, and cross-examination.

With more than two decades of multi-jurisdictional experience, IBF Investigations International delivers disciplined, evidence-based investigations designed to establish causation, clarify liability, and withstand adversarial testing. Our work integrates engineering analysis, human factors evaluation, and forensic methodology to ensure that all material aspects of an incident are properly identified, analysed, and clearly explained.

Following our international expansion, IBF Investigations International now operates through dedicated entities serving Africa and North America. All matters—regardless of jurisdiction—are conducted in alignment with standards consistent with the United States Federal Rules of Evidence and Daubert principles, ensuring methodological reliability, transparency, and admissibility at the highest level.

We do not compete on volume or price. We focus on matters where expert evidence carries real consequences and where precision, objectivity, and credibility are essential. For legal teams and organisations requiring serious forensic capability on serious cases, IBF Investigations International provides experience, integrity, and litigation-ready expertise.

Incident Fact Analysis

Independent factual analysis of accidents and incidents to establish what occurred, using available physical, digital, and documentary evidence.

Incident Fact Analysis

We assess scenes, vehicles, records, imagery, and timelines to determine objective facts before opinion is formed. This service supports early case assessment, internal reviews, insurance decisions, and legal strategy by separating verifiable evidence from assumption.

Evidence Integrity Review

Assessment of evidence quality, completeness, and reliability to identify gaps, risks, or preservation issues before matters escalate.

Evidence Integrity Review

We evaluate how evidence was collected, stored, documented, and interpreted. This includes photographs, measurements, telemetry, CCTV, and records. The objective is to identify weaknesses early, prevent spoliation challenges, and protect evidentiary value across jurisdictions.

Technical Reconstruction

Scientific reconstruction of accidents and incidents to determine movement, sequence, forces, and contributing technical factors.

Technical Reconstruction

Using physics, engineering principles, and validated methodology, we reconstruct events to explain how and why an incident occurred. Findings are presented clearly and defensibly, allowing legal teams, insurers, and courts to understand complex technical mechanisms.

Human Factors Analysis

Evaluation of perception, reaction, visibility, workload, and decision-making under real-world conditions at the time of an incident.

Human Factors Analysis

We assess whether human actions were reasonable and foreseeable given environmental, mechanical, and situational constraints. This analysis is critical in matters involving alleged negligence, misconduct, or error and avoids hindsight bias or assumption-based conclusions.

Insurance & Liability Support

Objective forensic support for insurance and indemnity matters involving causation, compliance, and disputed liability.

Insurance & Liability Support

We assist insurers, insured parties, and legal teams by clarifying technical causation, operational factors, and evidentiary consistency. Our role is to provide factual findings—not coverage opinions—allowing decision-makers to apply policy or contractual terms independently.

Commercial Incident Analysis

Forensic analysis of incidents arising from commercial operations, contracts, facilities, or managed assets.

Commercial Incident Analysis

We investigate incidents linked to business activity, infrastructure, logistics, or property use. Our findings support dispute resolution, regulatory response, and litigation by identifying technical causation, operational breakdowns, and contributory risk factors.

Product Failure & Liability

Technical investigation of alleged product failure, defect, or misuse relevant to liability and recall considerations.

Product Failure & Liability

We examine product condition, design function, maintenance history, and usage context to determine whether failure occurred and why. This service supports manufacturers, insurers, and legal teams in product liability claims, recalls, and regulatory inquiries.

Litigation & Trial Support

Specialist forensic support for legal teams preparing matters for deposition, mediation, arbitration, or trial.

Litigation & Trial Support

We assist attorneys with technical strategy, expert report review, evidentiary challenges, and cross-examination preparation. Complex findings are translated into clear, defensible positions suitable for adversarial testing in serious, high-stakes matters.

Expert Witness Services

Independent expert opinion and testimony developed for judicial scrutiny in complex and high-consequence matters.

Expert Witness Services

Our expert services are provided with the expectation of deposition and cross-examination. Opinions are grounded in reproducible methodology, transparent reasoning, and international evidentiary standards. We serve the court—not outcomes, clients, or positions.

Why Choose Us

Litigation-First Mindset

Every investigation is conducted on the assumption that it may be tested under oath. Our work is structured from the outset to withstand cross-examination, judicial scrutiny, and opposing expert review.

Evidence Before Opinion

We do not begin with theories or desired outcomes. Facts are identified, preserved, and analysed before conclusions are formed. This disciplined approach protects credibility and avoids hindsight bias.

International Standards, Local Insight

All matters are approached in alignment with international evidentiary and methodological standards, including those applied in US courts, while remaining grounded in local context and conditions where incidents occurred.

Depth Over Volume

We deliberately limit caseloads to ensure sufficient time, analysis, and professional attention is devoted to each matter. Our focus is not how many cases we accept, but how well each one is handled.

Court-Tested Experience

With more than 25 years of expert involvement in adversarial proceedings, we understand how technical evidence is challenged, misunderstood, or misused—and how to present it clearly and defensibly.

Not Hired Guns

We do not tailor opinions to suit a client’s position, insurer expectations, or litigation strategy. Our duty is to the integrity of the evidence and, ultimately, to the court or decision-maker.

Multi-Disciplinary Analysis

Our work integrates engineering principles, human factors, scene dynamics, and evidence science. This prevents narrow or siloed conclusions and ensures incidents are evaluated as complete systems.

Clear Communication of Complex Issues

Complex technical findings are translated into clear, structured explanations suitable for judges, attorneys, arbitrators, and decision-makers without technical backgrounds.

Serious Capability for Serious Matters

We are engaged when outcomes matter—legally, financially, or reputationally. Our services are designed for high-stakes matters where precision, credibility, and defensibility are non-negotiable.

IBF Investigations Case Timeline

Enagement Timeline

Initial Instruction & Scope Review | 1–3 Days

We review the opposing or existing expert report to confirm scope, jurisdictional context, and review objectives. This phase determines whether the report warrants technical critique, methodological testing, or admissibility-focused analysis.

Request for Source Material | 1–14 Days (to receive)

We identify and request underlying data relied upon by the expert, including photographs, measurements, calculations, assumptions, and reference materials. This ensures the review is based on primary sources rather than summary conclusions.

Methodology & Standards Assessment | 1–2 Weeks

The expert’s methods are assessed against accepted scientific principles, industry standards, and applicable evidentiary requirements. This phase determines whether techniques used are reliable, repeatable, and appropriate for the conclusions reached.

Assumptions & Calculations Review | 1–2 Weeks

We examine assumptions, inputs, calculations, and analytical steps for internal consistency and factual alignment. Unsupported assumptions, mathematical errors, or selective data use are identified and documented.

Evidence Consistency Analysis | 1–2 Weeks

The report is tested against physical evidence, scene data, and known facts to identify inconsistencies or omissions. This step determines whether conclusions are evidence-led or driven by interpretation beyond the available data.

Daubert / Rule 702 Reliability Review | 1–3 Weeks (if applicable)

Where admissibility is at issue, we assess the report against reliability, relevance, and methodological transparency criteria. Findings may support motions in limine, exclusion challenges, or admissibility hearings.

Consultation & Litigation Strategy | 1–2 Weeks After Review

We consult with legal teams to explain technical findings, clarify strengths and weaknesses, and assist in developing cross-examination themes or strategic responses to the expert opinion.

Peer Review Report | 1–3 Weeks After Request

A structured, objective review report is prepared, identifying methodological flaws, unsupported conclusions, or areas of agreement. Reports are suitable for litigation use, expert conferencing, or internal legal strategy.

Hearing / Trial Support | As Scheduled

We provide expert support during depositions, hearings, or trials where technical clarification or critique of the reviewed report is required. Testimony remains confined to the scope of the review and evidentiary findings.
