About Us
IBF Investigations International provides litigation-focused forensic accident analysis and expert testimony for legal professionals handling serious and complex matters.
Founded by Stan Bezuidenhout, an experienced forensic investigator and expert witness with extensive multi-jurisdictional casework, IBF Investigations operates at the intersection of engineering, human factors, and evidentiary law. Our work is grounded in disciplined methodology, transparent reasoning, and opinions developed for judicial scrutiny.
We support attorneys in matters involving traffic collisions, workplace incidents, and complex loss events where expert evidence must be reliable, reproducible, and defensible. Our analyses are conducted with the expectation that findings may be tested in deposition or at trial, and our reports are prepared accordingly.
With the establishment of IBFUSA LLC, our services are now structured to align with US Federal Rules of Evidence and Daubert standards, ensuring reliability, methodological integrity, and admissibility. While our work has been relied upon in South African courts and international matters, all new engagements are approached to the evidentiary standards required in North American litigation.
We do not produce opinion-driven reports or artificially constrained analyses. Our role is to assist the trier of fact by presenting clear, objective, and technically sound findings that support informed legal strategy.
For attorneys requiring disciplined forensic analysis on high-stakes matters, IBF Investigations offers experience, integrity, and litigation-ready expertise.
!! IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT !!
Practice Update | International Expansion and Elevated Standards
When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the global economy, we made a conscious and principled decision to support our clients across all sectors. During that period, we froze our rates, introduced caps on matters requiring extended involvement, and absorbed significant operational pressure in order to remain accessible, responsive, and dependable.
That decision was not without cost—but it was deliberate.
Five years later, the global environment has shifted. The South African Rand has strengthened materially against the US Dollar, international demand for forensic and expert services has increased, and our own practice has experienced sustained growth in complex and high-stakes engagements.
This growth has reaffirmed a fundamental reality of expert practice: unlike conventional consultancies, forensic and expert services cannot scale through automation, increased staffing, or accelerated workflows without compromising reliability, defensibility, and evidentiary integrity. Every report we produce is prepared on the basis that it may be subjected to judicial scrutiny and cross-examination, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
During 2025, we undertook a period of reflection. While we continued to accommodate a growing volume of work, it became clear that maintaining excellence required a recalibration of focus, standards, and structure—rather than continued expansion in volume.
International Expansion
Following multiple requests for services from the United States and Canada during 2025, we are pleased to formally announce the registration of IBFUSA LLC, filed in New Mexico.
From January 2026, our practice operates through two jurisdictions:
IBFSA (Pty) Ltd – serving South Africa and the African continent.
IBFUSA LLC – serving the United States and North America.
This expansion is strategic and standards-driven. It is not a departure from our African practice, but a reinforcement of the level at which we operate.
Elevated Standards Across All Matters
Going forward, all new appointments—regardless of jurisdiction—will be approached in accordance with standards aligned to United States Federal Rules of Evidence and Daubert principles. This ensures methodological rigor, transparency, and defensibility consistent with the most demanding expert-evidence environments globally.
African clients will continue to be served at this elevated standard, without any increase to local hourly rates. However, to maintain this level of work, we will be committing more time, analysis, and professional scrutiny to each matter and will be increasingly selective in the engagements we accept.
In 2026 and beyond, our focus will be on fewer matters of greater consequence—where expert evidence must withstand the highest level of scrutiny and where outcomes truly matter.
Notice to United States Attorneys
At this stage, IBFUSA LLC will provide services exclusively to attorneys and legal teams within the United States. This allows us to ensure strict compliance with jurisdictional requirements, evidentiary standards, and professional expectations while we establish and refine our North American operations.
We welcome engagement from US attorneys seeking expert forensic services on serious, complex, or high-stakes matters requiring disciplined methodology, international experience, and litigation-ready opinions.
Expansion into additional professional sectors within the United States is anticipated in future phases, following regulatory, operational, and professional alignment.
Our Operating Philosophy
- We do not compete on price.
- We do not limit scope to meet comparative quotations.
- We do not produce opinions that cannot be defended.
Our objective is clear: fewer clients, deeper analysis, and work that exceeds local and international benchmarks.
For matters where the stakes are real—legal, financial, reputational, or human—we remain committed to delivering expert services at a level beyond anything available locally.
Professional enquiries are welcome.

IBF Investigations Case Timeline
Enagement Timeline
Initial Instruction & Scope Review | 1–3 Days
We review the opposing or existing expert report to confirm scope, jurisdictional context, and review objectives. This phase determines whether the report warrants technical critique, methodological testing, or admissibility-focused analysis.
Request for Source Material | 1–14 Days (to receive)
We identify and request underlying data relied upon by the expert, including photographs, measurements, calculations, assumptions, and reference materials. This ensures the review is based on primary sources rather than summary conclusions.
Methodology & Standards Assessment | 1–2 Weeks
The expert’s methods are assessed against accepted scientific principles, industry standards, and applicable evidentiary requirements. This phase determines whether techniques used are reliable, repeatable, and appropriate for the conclusions reached.
Assumptions & Calculations Review | 1–2 Weeks
We examine assumptions, inputs, calculations, and analytical steps for internal consistency and factual alignment. Unsupported assumptions, mathematical errors, or selective data use are identified and documented.
Evidence Consistency Analysis | 1–2 Weeks
The report is tested against physical evidence, scene data, and known facts to identify inconsistencies or omissions. This step determines whether conclusions are evidence-led or driven by interpretation beyond the available data.
Daubert / Rule 702 Reliability Review | 1–3 Weeks (if applicable)
Where admissibility is at issue, we assess the report against reliability, relevance, and methodological transparency criteria. Findings may support motions in limine, exclusion challenges, or admissibility hearings.
Consultation & Litigation Strategy | 1–2 Weeks After Review
We consult with legal teams to explain technical findings, clarify strengths and weaknesses, and assist in developing cross-examination themes or strategic responses to the expert opinion.
Peer Review Report | 1–3 Weeks After Request
A structured, objective review report is prepared, identifying methodological flaws, unsupported conclusions, or areas of agreement. Reports are suitable for litigation use, expert conferencing, or internal legal strategy.
Hearing / Trial Support | As Scheduled
We provide expert support during depositions, hearings, or trials where technical clarification or critique of the reviewed report is required. Testimony remains confined to the scope of the review and evidentiary findings.

This piece is for a specific group of people who will recognise the pattern immediately: policyholders who submit a legitimate motor claim, only to be told—weeks or months later—that the claim is rejected because they allegedly failed to take “due care,” typically framed as excessive speed or recklessness. It is written out of...

Every year, thousands of hijackings occur on South African roads. In parallel, the country records well over a million road traffic collisions annually. Theft, fraud, and criminal interference affect almost every commercial road transporter at some point. These losses are unpredictable, often uncontrollable, and cumulatively devastating. They generate financial loss, operational disruption,...

When most members of the public hear the word risk, they interpret it as generic danger—something to be acknowledged in conversation, then ignored in practice. The transport sector does not have that privilege. If you operate trucks on South African roads—or you manage freight exposure in the United States—you live inside a risk...

Public frustration with law enforcement is easy to stoke. High-profile criminal matters—the Marikana killings, the Oscar Pistorius trial, the Inge Lotz murder, Nkandla—remain etched into public memory. They involve identifiable villains, dramatic courtroom moments, and familiar criminal narratives. Road deaths, by contrast, rarely sustain attention. A bus disaster killing dozens may pass...

In post-collision reports—whether prepared by police officers, insurers, or internal fleet personnel—the phrase “the brakes failed” appears with remarkable frequency. It is often treated as a conclusion rather than a starting point. From a forensic, legal, and risk-management perspective, that assumption is both unsafe and legally fragile. In the aftermath of the Pinetown...

In heavy commercial transport—whether in South Africa or the United States—four forces are always in tension: operations, people, risk, and profit. On organisational charts, road safety, occupational health, security, loss control, and accident investigation usually sit under a Risk function. Structurally, that makes sense. Operationally, however, many fleets undermine that structure with a...
